Andy joined the Financial Services Industry in 1989. Over his career he has advised on all aspects of financial services and represented the following well known financial institutions;


  • General Portfolio / GAN Financial Services Ltd From (1989 until 1998)
  • Allied Dunbar / Zurich (from 1998 until 2004)
  • Mortgages@Clearwater Ltd (From 2004 until 2007)
  • Mortgages Explained Ltd (From 2007 until Present)

In 2004, Andy decided that with the ever changing world of the Financial Services Industry it was time to specialise solely as a Mortgage & Protection Adviser to ensure his clients received the best possible advice. This is now standard practice within Mortgages Explained Ltd with other dedicated specialist working in partnership and providing specialist advice on investments, pensions, savings, estate planning, wills and long term care.

In 2012, Andy was appointed the director of Mortgages Explained Ltd. He then embedded his ethos that clients should receive clear advice by specialists in their field.

He prides himself on the success of his company and the excellent ongoing services provided.

Principle Financial Adviser

Originally from Manchester, Steve settled in Plymouth after serving in the Royal Marines. Steve started working as Area Manager for Pearl Assurance in 1991. He then started his own financial planning practice, Pilgrim Financial Services.

As well as achieving his Financial Planning Certificates he has also gained his Institute of Financial Services Level 4 Diploma in Financial Planning. He is highly qualified in the financial industry and specialises in investments and pensions.

General Manager – Mortgage & Protection Adviser

Warren has a great deal of experience in the Financial Services Industry. He first worked with Andy whilst representing GAN Financial Services in 1996. It was there that he qualified in Full Financial Planning and Mortgage Advice.

Warren went on to represent Royal Sun Alliance and in 2000 joined Andy at Zurich, continuing on the journey to Mortgages @ Clearwater and finally Mortgages Explained Ltd.

Warren is very passionate about helping both existing and new clients with their financial requirements.

Mortgage & Protection Adviser

Nick completed his Law and Business Studies at Plymouth City College after which he developed a successful and fulfilling career in media sales with two Blue Chip companies (Daily Mail group and British Telecom) for 15 years.

In 2009 Nick completed the Certificate in Mortgage Advice & Practice and then joined Mortgages Explained Ltd.

Nick believes that the mortgage process needs to be as stress free as possible for clients. He aims to offer a cost-effective solution with straightforward and honest advice.

Even with the more complex cases, his clients should always feel reassured that there is always an alternative solution. This is due to his excellent knowledge about the mortgage and protection markets.

Mortgage & Protection Adviser

Cavina started her career in 1987, working for a high street bank for 15 years, where she undertook many roles including management, customer relationship manager and staff training. Thereby, building a wealth of experience in the financial sector.

In 2016 Cavina returned to financial services after completing her Certificate in Mortgage Advice & Practice.

Cavina believes in the ethos of the company and ensures that a professional customer service is a priority, along with the continued care of our customers’ needs and requirements.

Office Manager & Paraplanner

Jan started her career with Barclays Bank directly after school, then going on to become the Head of Financial Services within 10 years.

In 1993, she left to concentrate on her young family.  On her return to work in 1994 she continued to gain experience and knowledge working as a Mortgage Administrator for a National Building Society before becoming responsible for the Mortgage Administration Department of a local Financial Services firm.  From there she worked as a Senior Underwriter for a National Mortgage Packager and has been with Mortgages Explained since 2012. She has experience in all aspects of the mortgage process.

Jan also found time to study and achieved her Certificate in Mortgage Advice & Practice in 2000. Her experience and wealth of knowledge are invaluable to both Advisers and clients alike as she can usually find the solutions to the complicated mortgage enquiries. This can often be the difference that ensures success.

Personal Assistant & Administrator

Sue studied at Plymouth College where she obtained a Diploma in Law and Business Studies.

Sue started working in financial services in 1995 and has formerly served as a PA to Financial Advisers with Wesleyan Financial Services, Pearl Assurance and then went on to become Office Manager with Pilgrim Financial Services since the Company began in 2003.

Sue is an integral part of Mortgages Explained Ltd and ensures that your journey with Mortgages Explained is simple and smooth. Communicating key stages with regular updates from all parties.
